Standing Events:
CLUB SHOOTS
Club Shoots are typically held every second Sunday of the month. They are usually 14 target Field and Hunter format, 28 Spot Hog targets, 3D Animals or a shoot on your own shoot where you pick the day and time to shoot the announced selected format. Practice range and course is closed during shoots. Gates open at 8:00am, shoots start at 9:00am. Club members and invited guests only. RSVPs prior to shoots are appreciated.
WORK PARTIES
Work Parties are scheduled typically scheduled on the 4th Sunday monthly to help with the maintenance of the range or to get ready for an upcoming shoot. Members will receive an email prior to scheduled work party date or you can check the calendar on our website. Start time is generally 9:00am and runs till 12:00pm. No minimum time required, work what you can. A variety of tasks are usually available; painting, weeding, trimming, pasting targets to cardboard, building targets.
CLUB MEETINGS
Club Meetings are held quarterly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm at Jim Cox Adventures, in February, May, August and November.
Special Events and Contests:
ISLAND SHOOT
The Island Shoot is an open invitational shoot. 28 3-D targets at marked yardages. Includes a 102yd Buffalo target. Three arrows per target. This is our largest club sponsored shoot with over 100 shooters coming from all over the state. Start time 9:00 but plan to come early to get registered. Volunteers are needed to help with registrations, set up, snack bar and clean up. If you don’t plan on shooting, please consider volunteering for this shoot or volunteer that non shooter in your family. This shoot is usually held in early September.
BIG 8 SHOOTS
Hosted by club typically begins the 1st Monday in May and runs for 8 consecutive weeks (no shoot on Memorial Day). Check schedule for these fun 3D shoots. 16 3-D animal targets at unmarked yardages. Range finders may be allowed, check with shoot coordinator. Two arrows each target. Start time is between 4:30 – 6:00pm. 2 mulligans available for purchase.
LEROY GARNER MEMORIAL SHOOT
28 3-D or Spot Hogg targets at marked yardages. 2 arrows. This is a fundraising charity shoot. Money raised at this shoot will be donated to a charity of the membership’s choice. This shoot is usually held either in the Spring or Fall.
STATE 900
The club typically hosts a CBH/SAA State Target Championship “900 Round” in September. NFAA or NAA with CBH/SAA cards required or you can shoot as a guest but will not be eligible for awards. This is an outdoor shoot. 30 arrows at 60 yards, 30 arrows at 50 yards and 30 arrows at 40 yards. Longbow and youth 50/40/30 and cubs 30/20/10. This is a chance to compete against shooters throughout the state at your home range. Scores are collected and compiled from other hosted shoots around the state to determine winners.
FLASHLIGHT/HALLOWEEN SHOOT
Fun family shoot. Festivities begin at 3:30 with games for children and adults, shoot at our moving target, enjoy a pot luck dinner, then wait for the sun to set, turn on your flash lights and have fun shooting at Halloween themed decorated targets. You pick what you want to shoot on the target and hope for the best. You won’t know if it is a positive or negative score until you pull your arrows. And to top it off at the end of the shoot a coin is flipped to determine whether the high or low score is the winner. Great fun for everyone, even non shooters! Members are asked to decorate targets for a chance to win the best decorated target award.
TURKEY SHOOT
14-28 mixed target and format shoot. Some Spot hog Safari targets, some Field and Hunter and some 3 D animal targets. Grocery gift cards will be awarded in a flighted system to help with your holiday feast. Typically held in early November.
BELT BUCKLE CONTEST
For the hunters in the club we offer a Belt Buckle Contest. Members have an opportunity to win belt buckles for shooting the largest animal How it works: Buckle applications are available for $20. 1. Apply for animal before start of hunting season 2. shoot your animal with your bow 3. take a picture of your kill 4. bring in your animal to club shop to be measured.
SCALP CONTEST
Scalps are available for purchase at Jim Cox Adventure. Scalps are used for friendly wgers between club members. At the end of the year, scalps are collected and an award is given to the member who collected the most scalps.
ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
Annually, usually in January or February, the club hosts an awards banquet and annual membership meeting. Awards are given out for the Big 8 Shoot winners, Leroy Garner Shoot winners, Belt Buckle contest winners, Scalp contest winner, Bow Hunter of the Year, Most Improved Shooter, and the Leroy and Diane Awards recognizing members who went above and beyond for the club that year. Other miscellaneous awards are given and members who did well in state and other competitions are recognized.
